Swansea University is inviting applications for fully-funded PhD Studentship in Physics. These studentships are for students with a minimum upper second class Honours degree or equivalent in physics or a related field. This is a three year fully-funded Swansea University scholarship, open to UK/EU candidates. Scholarship Description: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and spectroscopy (MRS) are key tools for non-invasive imaging of biological systems and medical diagnostics. MRS in particular is a promising tool for the quantification of chemical biomarkers in vivo, which could aid the early detection of many serious diseases from dementia to cancers. The main aim of the project will be to develop new tools and pulse sequences for MRS to overcome these limitations. This will involve the application of quantum-dynamic modelling and quantum control techniques to design chemically selective excitation pulses, as well as their experimental implementation and evaluation.

-Academic References â" all scholarship applications require two supporting references to be submitted. Please ensure that your chosen referees are aware of the funding deadline, as their references form a vital part of the evaluation process. Please either include these with your scholarship application or ask your referees to send them directly to Sandra Kramcha.
-Academic Transcripts â" academic transcripts must be submitted along with the scholarship application by the funding deadline. We will be using these to verify your academic qualifications.
-Applicants should use the âSupplementary Personal Statementâ section of t he application form to explain why the award they are applying for particularly matches their skills and experience and how they would choose to develop the project.
