Scholarship Description: The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation have established a long term postdoctoral scholarship program at Stanford University. The purpose of the program is to bring outstanding young Swedish scientists to Stanford University for one to two years of postdoctoral study and research. The program is open for all disciplines of science. Fellows are given the opportunity to participate in a broad range of interdisciplinary activities and programs that characterize Stanford’s approach to research and education. After completing their post-doc visit at Stanford, the Scholars will be supported upon their return to Sweden and use their experience from Stanford for the benefit of Sweden.

What does it cover? The Stipend is for a period of up to two years postdoctoral studies. The Stipend amounts up to around USD 65,000 annually including travel grant, insurances and other post-doc benefits. In addition, the Fellow can apply for an annual allowance for accompanying family members of up to USD 10,000. Following the postdoctoral studies there is an opportunity to receive funding from the Wallenberg Foundation to support a research position at a Swedish university for up to two years, unless the applicant cannot find another position. The applicants should have a doctor´s degree from a Swedish University at the time when the post-doc period starts. The Stipend cannot be combined with other stipends or positions. Scientific merits in relation to age will an important factor at the assessment.

Notification: A list of successful applicants will be published on the web-site late Spring 2014.

How to Apply: The mode of applying is by electronically. A complete application should contain the applicant’s CV and include a list of publications, a brief description of the proposed research programme and a description of the research profile of the intended host and supervisor. A letter of recommendation from the intended host should be sent directly to the Foundation. If the applicant has not received the doctorate exam at the time of the application a letter from the supervising professor should be enclosed where the actual date for the exam is stated. Each applicant should ensure that two separate letters of recommendation with comments on the research programme are submitted directly to the Foundation before the end of the application term. The application shall be written in English.
