University of Ottawa is offering postgraduate fellowships for graduates of an accredited Canadian or USA residency program in the early stage of their career path. Candidates originating from the University of Ottawa who intend to pursue the fellowship at the University of Ottawa or elsewhere in Canada, USA or abroad. Candidates not originating from the University of Ottawa must pursue the fellowship at the University of Ottawa. They must have a written commitment from their Department/Division Head to return to the University of Ottawa upon completion of the fellowship. 7 fellowships are offered for Min. 6 months/Max. 24 months. Each fellowship is in the amount of up to CAN$50,000 per annum.
Study Subject(s): Fellowships are provided in the faculty of medicine.
Course Level: The fellowships are available for pursuing postgraduate degree level.

Eligibility: Admissible candidates can be recent resident graduates of an accredited Canadian or USA residency program in the early stage of their career path. They must have completed postgraduate training within two years of application to this fellowship award.
-Candidates originating from the University of Ottawa who intend to pursue the fellowship at the University of Ottawa. They must have a written commitment from their Department/Division Head to remain at the University of Ottawa upon completion of the fellowship.
-Candidates originating from the University of Ottawa who intend to pursue the fellowship elsewhere in Canada, U.S.A. or abroad. They must have a written commitment from their Department/Division Head to return to the University of Ottawa upon completion of the fellowship.
-Candidates not originating from the University of Ottawa must pursue the fellowship at the University of Ottawa. Although it is not a requirement that the successful candidate stay at the University of Ottawa after completion of the fellowship, priority consideration will be given to candidates who intend to establish themselves in Ottawa.
Scholarship Open for International Students:Â Canadian or USA students can apply for the fellowships.
Scholarship Description: The Faculty of Medicine recognizes the need for physicians to acquire advanced skills. There is a well recognized need for young resident graduates to travel to other centres to acquire these skills before returning to Ottawa where they will develop innovative programs of excellence to enhance our educational and health care mandate. Candidates can be recent resident graduates or individuals at the early stage of their academic career path.
Number of award(s):Â 7 fellowships are offered.
Duration of award(s): Fellowship is offered for Min. 6 months / Max. 24 months.
What does it cover? Each fellowship is in the amount of up to CAN$50,000 per annum
Selection criteria: Candidateâs academic merit.
-Clear, written educational objectives of proposed fellowship.
-Quality of program of study (structure, supervisor).
-Maximum benefit to the University of Ottawa (reputation, recruitment, support of existing research initiatives establishment of international links). Priority consideration will be given to candidates who have an international component to their program of study (i.e. scientific or academic collaboration with individuals/centres outside of Canada). This is in keeping with the Universityâs strategic plan towards the
advancement of international relations.
-Availability of other sources of physical and financial support (i.e. salary, living allowance, travel allowance, matching funds). The department/division must supplement funds for the fellowship such that the total value of the fellowship (from all sources) equals the current scale of remuneration of a PGY 6 level (as of January 1, 2011: CAN$76,210).
-Commitment by the candidate to return to the University of Ottawa as a faculty member upon completion of the fellowship explained in a cover letter. The letter should also describe what they hope to achieve if they are granted the fellowship.

How to Apply:Â The mode of applying is email. Applicants must include:
-Application form duly completed. Second source of funding must be clearly indicated (Section II).
-Candidateâs cover letter.
-C.V. of the candidate.
-Letter of nomination from Department/Division Chair/Chief which must include details on the benefits to the University of Ottawa in supporting this candidate and confirmation of an academic appointment upon completion of the fellowship (if applicable).
-Letter of support from proposed supervisor describing the quality of the program of study.
-Copy of the letter of offer to pursue fellowship or proof of application if fellowship not yet confirmed.
-Three (3) letters of reference
Scholarship Application Deadline: The application deadline is December 13, 2013.
