The Leibniz-Institute of European History (IEG) is inviting applications for research fellowships to international postdoctoral students. These fellowships are awarded to pursue a new research project in any historical subject after having finished dissertation. Funding is currently € 1600/month for at least 6 months and up to 12 months. Applicants must have completed the doctoral procedure but it should not date back for more than three years when taking up the fellowship. The application deadline is August 9th 2013.

Eligibility: Applicants must have completed the doctoral procedure but it should not date back for more than three years when taking up the fellowship. Fellows should have a solid command of German so as to participate in discussions at the Institute. The Institute’s specialist library and the wider academic infrastructure of Mainz are available to them for their research. Fellows are obliged to register officially in Mainz and take part in events at the Institute. It is possible to live at the Institute in Mainz. Short trips to archives, libraries and conferences are possible. Fellows are not permitted to undertake paid work while receiving the IEG-scholarship.

Applications are invited from young scientists (esp. history and theology) of any national background working on any historical subject, who want to establish a new research project after having finished dissertation. Fellows can pursue their individual project in an inspiring atmosphere. The research fellowship programme of the IEG combines research, training, and international networking. Applicants must have completed the doctoral procedure but it should not date back for more than three years when taking up the fellowship. Fellows should have a solid command of German so as to participate in discussions at the Institute. The Institute’s specialist library and the wider academic infrastructure of Mainz are available to them for their research. Fellows are obliged to register officially in Mainz and take part in events at the Institute. It is possible to live at the Institute in Mainz. Short trips to archives, libraries and conferences are possible. Fellows are not permitted to undertake paid work while receiving the IEG-scholarship.

How to Apply: Please send your application via e-mail (ieg3-at-ieg-mainz.de) to: The Leibniz-Institute of European History (IEG). Please attach (as one file) the application form (download: http://www.ieg-mainz.de/stipendienprogramm) including
-A curriculum vitae; a list of publications (if available)
-A brief description of the proposed project with a detailed working plan and schedule for the intended stay at the Institute (5â€"6 pages, up to 1500 words). In addition, please direct prior to the application deadline via air mail:
-Copies of university transcripts
-Two letters of support, specifically addressing the proposed project, from two senior academic scholars (in a sealed envelope or to be sent directly by the referee to the IEG) â€" general letters of recommendation will not be accepted
-A copy of the completed dissertation on CD-ROM.

Scholarship Application Deadline: The deadline for applications is August 9th 2013.
