UQ Academic Scholarships for Undergraduate Students in Australia, 2014

University of Queensland offers academic scholarships for pursuing undergraduate degree level in Australia. Academic scholarships are open to Year 12 and gap year students who are Australian Permanent Residents, New Zealand citizens or international students who are completing or have completed Years 11 and 12 in Australia. The application deadline is 31st October 2013.

Note: Applications for 2014 academic scholarships will open on 1 August 2013.

Eligibility: Academic scholarships are open to Year 12 and gap year students who:
-are Australian Citizens or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa Holders; or
-are Australian Permanent Residents, New Zealand citizens or international students who are completing or have completed Years 11 and 12 in Australia;
and
-have not completed any previous tertiary study other than that undertaken as part of Year 11-12 studies (eg. Enhanced Studies Program); and
-have applied for a tertiary place through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC); and
-are intending to enrol as a full-time student in an undergraduate program at The University of Queensland in 2014 (or 2015 if they are deferring their tertiary place); and
-have UQ listed as their 1st or 2nd QTAC preference.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Australian, New Zealand and international students (who are completing or have completed Years 11 and 12 in Australia) can apply for these scholarships.

Scholarship Description: UQ’s Academic Scholarship program aims to reward the achievements of outstanding school leavers and gap year students. If you are a high-achieving student and you are completing Year 12 in 2013 (or you completed in 2012 and you’re on a gap year) then you are encouraged to apply.

UQ Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships- up to 5 years.
-UQ Excellence Scholarships- up to 4 years.
-UQ Merit Scholarships-for the first year of study.

What does it cover? There are three categories of Academic Scholarships on offer:
-UQ Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships - valued at $12,000 per year for up to 5 years for undergraduate and any subsequent postgraduate coursework study (where applicable). Awarded to applicants who achieve at the very top of the OP1 band (or ATAR equivalent).
-UQ Excellence Scholarships (including UQ Excellence (Colonel D E Evans Memorial) and UQ Excellence (AJ Deakin Memorial) Scholarships) â€" valued at $6,000 per year for up to 4 years for undergraduate and any subsequent postgraduate coursework study (where applicable). OP1/equivalent applicants who have demonstrated outstanding academic, leadership and/or significant community service achievements during years 11-12 will be considered.
-UQ Merit Scholarships â€" valued at $6,000 for the first year of study. High achieving students(OP 1-3) who have demonstrated significant academic, leadership and/or community service will be considered.

Selection Criteria:
-Scholarship recipients will be determined by a panel of senior UQ staff and selection is completely at the University’s discretion.
-Scholarships will be awarded with consideration to a range of factors including but not necessarily limited to academic achievement, demonstrated leadership and/or community service achievements, financial need, program preferences and secondary school attended.
-Bonus ranks applied as a result of any scheme will NOT apply for the purposes of awarding scholarships.

Notification: Successful Queensland applicants will be notified by telephone and/or email as soon as possible following the release of their Year 12 results in December 2013. Successful International Baccalaureate and interstate applicants will be notified in early January 2014.
