The US-UK Fulbright Commission offers award for US students to pursue a Master’s degree (or the first year of a longer Master’s or PhD programme) in any discipline at the University of Sussex in UK. Students hold or expect to receive a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent professional training or experience) in a relevant area before departure to the UK. Applicants will receive a full tuition fee waiver from the University of Sussex as well as contributing towards general maintenance costs (accommodation, travel, subsistence, etc.) while in the UK.

Eligibility: In addition, all candidates must meet the minimum eligibility for this Award category:
-US citizen resident anywhere except the United Kingdom, and
-Hold or expect to receive a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent professional training or experience) in a relevant area before departure to the UK.

Scholarship Open for International Students: The students of the USA can apply for this award.

Scholarship Description: The US-UK Fulbright Commission2In the 2014/2015 cycle, one Fulbright-University of Sussex Award will be offered to pursue a Master’s degree (or the first year of a longer Master’s or PhD programme) in any discipline at the University of Sussex.

Number of award(s): One award is offered.

Duration of award(s): Award is offered for one year.

What does it cover? Fulbright Awards offer generous financial support for one year of study in the UK. Award funding is intended as a contribution to the first academic year of tuition fees and general maintenance costs in the UK. Grants are paid in installments directly to the grantee. In this Award category, the grantee will receive a full tuition fee waiver from the University of Sussex. In addition, the grantee will receive £12,000 which is intended as a contribution towards general maintenance costs (accommodation, travel, subsistence, etc.) while in the UK. Sickness and accident benefits (though typically not needed with access to the NHS), visa guidance and/or sponsorship, and assistance opening a UK bank account are also included.

Selection Criteria: The Fulbright Awards Programme is looking not only for academic excellence, but also:
-demonstrable ambassadorial skills with evidence of cultural sensitivity and a genuine desire to learn more about the United Kingdom and share with British citizens aspects of American culture,
-experience and interest in a range of extracurricular and community activities,
-leadership potential, and
-a desire to further the Fulbright Programme and give back to your home country upon returning.

Notification: Applicants will be notified by March 2014.

How to Apply: The Fulbright application is similar to, but separate from an application to a university or academic institution. Candidates choose and apply to the university (ies) and/or academic programme(s) in the UK they wish to attend directly and independently. Please refer to the timeline to see when to apply for Fulbright, as this may differ from the timeline for applying to academic programmes, universities, and institutions. A Fulbright Award is contingent upon gaining acceptance to the chosen UK institution and/or programme. The Institute of International Education (IIE) facilitates the Fulbright application process, including the online application. You will be able to log in and out of your online Fulbright application account and will not be required to complete the Fulbright application in one sitting.

Scholarship Application Deadline: The application deadline is 15th October 2013.
