Visegrad Scholarships for International Applicants at Open Society Archives in Hungary, 2013/14

The International Visegrad Fund in coop­er­a­tion with the Open Society Archivum Budapest offers 12 international scholarships to selected schol­ars, researchers or jour­nal­ists from the Visegrad Group (V4) coun­tries and 3 fel­low­ships annu­ally to non-V4 applicants. Applicants will be awarded a scholarship of €2,000 for pursuing research at the Open Society Archives (OSA) at the Central European University in Budapest. This scholarship will provide access to the archives for scholars, artists and journalists and will cover travel to and from Budapest, a modest subsistence and accommodation for a research period of two months.

Study Subject (s): Research top­ics for aca­d­e­mic year 2013/2014: Welfare poli­cies in Soviet-type societies; Social solidarity or possible explanations for the lack of it under socialism; Ideological and cul­tural aspi­ra­tions (and their roots) of anti-regime move­ments in Soviet-type societies; Documenting human rights violations in order to aid reconciliation in post-conflict societies.
Course Level: Scholarships are awarded for pursuing research programme at the Open Society Archives (OSA) at the Central European University in Budapest.

Eligibility: The fellowships will be given on a competitive basis to scholars/artists/journalists who wish to conduct research at OSA, and whose current research projects are relevant to the holdings and the given research priorities of the Fund and the Archivum.

Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: Students of Visegrad Group (V4) coun­tries (the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Republic of Poland and the Slovak Republic) and non Visegrad Group (V4) coun­tries can apply.

How to Apply:
-Application let­ter in English (includ­ing the expected period of stay and pre­ferred dates)
-Research description/plan in English (about 800 words; should indi­cate rela­tion­ship between the cur­rent research topic, the cho­sen col­lec­tion in the OSA hold­ings and the applicant’s research, the intended use of text based or audio-visual research results, etc.); artists are expected to sub­mit a portfolio, too
-Curriculum Vitae (CV)
-Names of two referees with contact address
-Applicants are also requested to submit a copy of a certificate con­firming the passing of officially recognized advanced level English language exam.

Scholarship Application Deadline: Application deadlines are October 10, 2013 and January 10, 2014.
