ANESI’s Visiting Fellowship for Outstanding Women Geoscientists in Africa, 2015

Applications are invited for ANESI’s visiting Fellowship for Outstanding Women Geoscientists. Fellowship is availble for best performing female students to pursue post-graduate education (PhD programmes) and career in Earth sciences. A maximum grant of 2500 USD/fellow will cover the travel and subsistence costs. Priority will be given to those institutions having provision of matching funds for the same activity. ANESI will require a report from the host institution and from the beneficiaries immediately upon completion of the exchange program.

How to Apply: Applications should be send via e-mail. Institutions should submit on behalf of their best performing post-graduate female student (only one per institution) an application that includes :-
-A detailed proposal describing the activity to be undertaken and explaining how the programme will help advancing his/her research (5 pages maximum);

â€" A workplan toward completion of the PhD.

IKBBC International Scholarships for Canadian Students, 2015

The Irving K. Barber British Columbia Scholarship Society in partnership with the Victoria Foundation is awarding study abroad scholarships for Canadian students. Scholarships are awarded to participate in academic, cultural, language or experiential study programs outside of Canada and the United States. One world international scholarship range between $1,000-$3,500.  International Scholarship applicants can also self-select to be considered for high-value Premier’s International Scholarships ($6,000-$10,000) if they meet additional criteria. The application deadline is April 30, 2015.

Scholarship Description: The Irving K. Barber British Columbia Scholarship Society, in partnership with the Victoria Foundation, hosts a suite of international scholarships designed to support students from BC in studying abroad. Successful applicants must clearly demonstrate academic merit as well as significant involvement in their community and/or school. One World International Scholarship is available to students pursuing study or work abroad programs that are either: a formal part of a BC credential program and/or carry academic credit recognized at a BC educational institution ($1,000-$3,500), or; offer experiential learning opportunities involving language acquisition and/or cultural training ($1,000). Students who apply may also be considered for the high-value Premier’s International Scholarships if they meet additional criteria and indicate interest.

Number of award(s): One world international scholarship is available.

Duration of award(s): The program must be for academic credit and at least three months in length.

What does it cover? One world international scholarship range between $1,000-$3,500. Premier’s International Scholarships of $6,000 to $10,000 are awarded.

SAMRC Scientific Merit Awards in South Africa, 2015

South African Medical Research Council is offering merit awards for medical scientists to contribute to health research in South Africa. There are 3 types of awards: Platinum Medals are available for lifetime achievement, Gold Medals are for senior researchers who have made seminal scientific contributions and Silver Medals are available for recent postdoctoral researchers who have made substantial scientific contribution. The medals will contain the MRC logo and will be plated with silver, gold and platinum. The Award will include the actual Medal, a framed certificate and a cash award to be determined by the MRC Board. The cash amounts are: R10 000 for silver, R25 000 for Gold and R50 000 for Platinum. The application deadline is 15 May, 2015.

-One Gold Medal may be awarded annually to each of the following who meet the criteria: an MRC (intramural or extramural) researcher; a non-MRC researcher, i.e. a researcher who is not employed in an intramural or extramural research unit of the MRC; an African scientist (from any country in Africa other than South Africa) who has significant collaborations with South African researchers and who has made significant contributions to health research in South Africa and the Continent and an international scientist (from any country in the world other than from Africa) who has significant collaborations with South African researchers and who has made significant contributions to health research in South Africa and the Continent.
-Silver medals are awarded annually to up-and-coming scientists (at post-doctoral level) for important scientific contributions made within 10 years of having been awarded their PhD. The Silver Award is a Scientific Achievement Award for an emerging researcher who recently completed a doctoral degree.

Scholarship Open for International Students: South African citizens/Permanent South African and African applicants are eligible to apply for these merit awards.

Scholarship Description: The SAMRC will acknowledge the country’s leading medical scientists with Platinum, Gold, Silver and Lifetime Achievement medals at a prestigious awards ceremony in October 2015. The awards, which were established to express the SAMRC’s support for excellence in health research, are in their third year after a thirteen-year hiatus and aim to honour scientists whose work has had a monumental impact on health science in South Africa and continues to contribute to the improvement of health in the country. There are three types of awards available:
-Platinum Medals are awarded for a lifetime of exemplary scientific achievement, with seminal contributions that have impacted health, especially for people living in developing countries.

Selection Criteria:
-The Platinum Medal is a Lifetime Achievement Award for an outstanding scientist who has raised the profile of South African science and helped build the foundations of health research in the country for future generations. Additional criteria for awarding a platinum medal are as follows: at least one exceptional scientific accomplishment, breakthrough or contribution to research which is acknowledged at national and international level; Meritorious contributions to enhancing the prestige of South African medical research and/or; extending medical knowledge; As a guideline, candidates for a platinum medal should have over 100 scientific papers, with many in high impact journals and several receiving high citation rates (i.e. >100 citations) over the course of a lifetime in health research; Serve on national and international panels, advisory groups and working groups in their field of research and recipient of other prestigious awards and commendations that recognize scientific achievement.
-The Gold Award is a Scientific Excellence Award. Criteria for awarding gold medals are as follows: a recent exceptional accomplishment, breakthrough or contribution to research (within the last 5 years) which is acknowledged at international level; this accomplishment/breakthrough/contribution can take the form of a patent or very high impact (IF 15 and over) / highly cited journal publications (a single or a set of related publications with >250 citations). This meritorious contribution must have clearly enhanced the prestige of South African medical research and extended medical knowledge and demonstrated impact of the research contribution on health in South Africa or globally.
-Criteria for awarding silver medals are as follows: research contributions that impact on the health of people, especially those living in developing countries; acknowledgements at national and international level for meritorious scientific contributions and/or extending medical knowledge and at least one publication in a very high impact journal or a highly cited publication (> 100 citations).

Notification: The awards will be announced through the following channels: an organisation-wide email, a press release, targeted communications to external stakeholders, and an awards event/ceremony. The names of medal awardees will be included on new medal boards at the MRC campuses and on the MRC website.

How to Apply: Completed application forms should be submitted in MS Word format via email or before the submission deadline. 2015 ROSE MSc Scholarships in Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology, Italy
