2015 Glasgow School of Social & Political Sciences PhD Studentship at UBDC, UK

University of Glasgow is offering a PhD studentship for a project on “Housing and welfare in times of ‘austerity’” Urban Studies in the School of Social & Political Sciences commencing in October 2015. Candidates should have completed advanced methods training at Masters level or have equivalent research experience. The award will cover fees (Home/EU or International) and provide an annual stipend at the standard ESRC rate (for 2015/16, this is £14,002 tbc) plus an annual allowance for research or training expenses (£750 per year). Eligibility: Applicants need a good first degree (2.1. or higher) in the social sciences or another relevant discipline such as statistics. They should be able to demonstrate some knowledge and understanding of quantitative social research methods, as well as the desire and aptitude to develop a high level of expertise in this area. Applicants with strong quantitative skills such as those from statistics who do not have a social science background will be considered; the award of the studentship may be conditional on them successfully completing additional training in social theory during their first PhD year. Students due to complete a Masters programme prior to October 2015 are encouraged to apply although any award may be contingent on final results.

The UBDC is an ESRC-funded data service promoting the use of innovative methods and complex urban data to address global city challenges. ANESI’s Visiting Fellowship for Outstanding Women Geoscientists in Africa, 2015

Applications are invited for ANESI’s visiting Fellowship for Outstanding Women Geoscientists. Fellowship is availble for best performing female students to pursue post-graduate education (PhD programmes) and career in Earth sciences. A maximum grant of 2500 USD/fellow will cover the travel and subsistence costs. Duration of award(s): The Visiting Fellowship for Outstanding Women Geoscientists duration is two months.

Selection criteria: The selection of candidates will be on a competitive basis. To that end, an international committee will be set up. Priority will be given to those institutions having provision of matching funds for the same activity. ANESI will require a report from the host institution and from the beneficiaries immediately upon completion of the exchange program.

How to Apply: Applications should be send via e-mail. Institutions should submit on behalf of their best performing post-graduate female student (only one per institution) an application that includes :-
-A detailed proposal describing the activity to be undertaken and explaining how the programme will help advancing his/her research (5 pages maximum);
â€" A letter of nomination;
-A details of the host institution in Africa including its formal approval;
â€" A workplan toward completion of the PhD.

IKBBC International Scholarships for Canadian Students, 2015

The Irving K. Barber British Columbia Scholarship Society in partnership with the Victoria Foundation is awarding study abroad scholarships for Canadian students. Scholarships are awarded to participate in academic, cultural, language or experiential study programs outside of Canada and the United States. One world international scholarship range between $1,000-$3,500.  International Scholarship applicants can also self-select to be considered for high-value Premier’s International Scholarships ($6,000-$10,000) if they meet additional criteria. The application deadline is April 30, 2015.

-you are enrolled in an academic program at a public BC post-secondary institution leading to a credential that requires at least one year of full-time study and have been accepted into an eligible study or work abroad program;
-you have achieved an academic standing suitable to an overseas study/work program, as determined by your post
secondary institution;
-you are able to demonstrate links between the study/work abroad experience you are pursuing and your education goals;
-you have demonstrated some extracurricular involvement in your current educational institution and/or community;
-you are not planning a study/work activity in a country from which you have emigrated within the past ten years;
-you are able to begin your study term within twelve months of receiving notification of an award;
-you plan to return to British Columbia after completing your studies abroad for further education and/or work.
Additional Eligibility Criteria-Premier’s International Scholarship: If you also wish to be considered for a Premier’s International Scholarship ($6,000 â€" $10,000), you must meet the additional criteria below:
-Your study/work abroad program begins between May 2015 and April 2016
-Your study/work abroad program is a minimum of three months in length
-You have achieved a B+ or equivalent academic standing

Scholarship Open for International Students: Canadian citizen or permanent resident (landed immigrant) can apply for this study abroad scholarship.

Scholarship Description: The Irving K. Barber British Columbia Scholarship Society, in partnership with the Victoria Foundation, hosts a suite of international scholarships designed to support students from BC in studying abroad. Successful applicants must clearly demonstrate academic merit as well as significant involvement in their community and/or school. One World International Scholarship is available to students pursuing study or work abroad programs that are either: a formal part of a BC credential program and/or carry academic credit recognized at a BC educational institution ($1,000-$3,500), or; offer experiential learning opportunities involving language acquisition and/or cultural training ($1,000). Students who apply may also be considered for the high-value Premier’s International Scholarships if they meet additional criteria and indicate interest.

Number of award(s): One world international scholarship is available.

Duration of award(s): The program must be for academic credit and at least three months in length.

What does it cover? One world international scholarship range between $1,000-$3,500. Premier’s International Scholarships of $6,000 to $10,000 are awarded.

Selection Criteria: To receive a scholarship, students’ applications should demonstrate:
-academic achievement;
-interest and involvement in their educational institution and/or community;
-past experiences that relate how they will be successful in their studies abroad (e.g. independence, leadership, maturity, previous travel experience, familiarity with the language, cultural sensitivity); and
-a clear link between their proposed study/work abroad experience and their educational/career goals.
Note: Preference will be given to students pursuing their first degree.

Notification: You will be notified of the results of your application by the institution through which you applied. If you receive a scholarship, payments will be issued to you directly from the Irving K. Barber British Columbia Scholarship Society.
